Chiefs have Chris Berman to thank for 90-year-old trick play

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid reached into football history during Monday Night Football, deploying a 1930s-era trick play dubbed "Heisman" credited to inspiration from Chris Berman. The sequence utilized a two-quarterback formation featuring offseason addition Justin Fields, who hooked up with fellow newcomer Kenneth Walker III for a touchdown as the Chiefs opened their 2026 campaign with a 31-10 triumph over the Denver Broncos.

The matchup also marked the return of starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes following his recovery from torn ACL and LCL ligaments. Mahomes contributed 184 passing yards alongside a pair of scoring tosses in the victory, while Walker set the tone in his backfield debut after previously playing for the Seattle Seahawks.
