Carse assault investigation dropped by police

Derbyshire Police have concluded their inquiry into an alleged physical altercation involving Brydon Carse, confirming that no further steps will be taken against the 31-year-old England bowler. Online clips had surfaced showing the Durham seamer detained in handcuffs in the early hours of August 23 outside Molly Malones on The Wardwick in Derby, where he had been initially apprehended on suspicion of drunk and disorderly conduct before being released upon giving his personal information.

Despite the criminal probe being shelved, Carse remains under review by the Cricket Regulator regarding the late-night disturbance.

The episode led to significant fallout for the paceman, prompting his expulsion from England's second and third Tests against Pakistan as well as the limited-overs tour facing Sri Lanka, amid Test skipper Joe Root expressing deep frustration to the squad and white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum urging him to sort out personal matters. The England and Wales Cricket Board stated that while Carse was physically eligible to play against Sri Lanka, time away was necessary to address the root causes of the Derby controversy and reset properly.

Although Carse has featured for Durham since the incident, an illness sidelined him from their recent county fixture against Worcestershire.
