Carlos Alcaraz has reclaimed his form and dominance on the ATP Tour by successfully defending his Japan Open title in Tokyo. The 23-year-old Spaniard, ranked third in the world, overcame a challenging 4½-month layoff due to a right wrist injury to secure victory over Czech qualifier Jiří Lehečka in a tight final, winning 7–6(4), 6–4.
His triumph marks his third ATP title of the season, following wins at the Australian Open and the Qatar Open earlier this year, and underscores his resilience after a prolonged absence from competition. Alcaraz’s path to the final was far from straightforward, as he rallied from a shaky start in the semifinals, losing 16 straight points before defeating compatriot Jaume Munar in a dramatic three-set match (5–7, 6–3, 6–1).
The win also propelled him past one of Andy Murray’s career records, adding another milestone to his rapidly growing legacy on the court.
