Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has made her stance on retaining All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell crystal clear as the team enters a critical offseason. Mitchell, who shattered the WNBA single-season scoring record in 2026 with 1,086 points and averaged 24.7 points per game, has become the league’s most sought-after free agent.
However, her decision hinges on personal comfort, as she has cited stress from fan criticism and online harassment for playing alongside Clark. The duo’s chemistry propelled the Fever to a franchise-best 28 wins and league records in scoring (96.0 points per game) and offensive efficiency (117.0 points per 100 possessions), though they fell short in the first round of the playoffs to the Las Vegas Aces.
Clark, who finished third in league scoring at 22.3 points per game, has already begun a direct recruitment effort, emphasizing her deep bond with Mitchell. "She knows how much I love her," Clark said, calling Mitchell the only player she’d want in the backcourt.
With the Fever’s championship ambitions on the line, losing Mitchell’s 25-point-per-game output would be a devastating blow to their defensive and offensive foundation.
