New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart criticized officiating decisions following their 101-98 overtime loss to the Atlanta Dream in Game 2 of the WNBA semifinals. Stewart claimed she was told by officials during the final possession that the Liberty had no reset timeout remaining, despite later discovering they still had one available.
The confusion arose after New York declined to call the timeout before Stewart’s missed desperation shot, which came after Angel Reese made two free throws with 4.3 seconds left to seal the win. Lead official Fatou Cissoko-Stephens disputed Stewart’s account, insisting the timeout was confirmed to the team before the final play.
The Liberty have since filed an inquiry with the league to review the call, adding to the controversy surrounding the game’s outcome. The series shifts to New York for Game 3, where the Dream could advance to their first WNBA Finals appearance since 2013.
