Bills, Jets the two AFC East teams to win in Week 1

Only two AFC East franchises secured victories during the opening week of the 2026 NFL campaign, as both the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills came away triumphant. Buffalo kicked off their schedule by defeating the Houston Texans, while the Jets managed a decisive 23-10 victory against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on September 13.

The contest also saw wide receiver Adonai Mitchell celebrate during the second quarter as New York firmly established control.

The 13-point road triumph marked a dramatic turnaround for the Jets, who had endured a 3-14 record in their prior campaign and needed over eight weeks to notch a single victory in their initial season under Aaron Glenn. This time, Glenn secured a Week 1 head-coaching victory against Robert Saleh, joining Buffalo and the Cincinnati Bengals among the league's fast starters while teams like the Los Angeles Chargers faltered.
