The Chicago Bears will honor the late Mike Ditka, one of the franchise’s most iconic figures, by retiring his No. 89 helmet decal in a tribute to his legendary career.
Ditka, who served as the Bears’ head coach from 1982 to 1992, led the team to its only Super Bowl victory in 1985 and compiled a 106-62 record during his tenure. Beyond his coaching success, Ditka was also the first tight end inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, cementing his place as one of the NFL’s all-time greats.
The announcement comes as the Bears prepare to face the Green Bay Packers, adding a poignant moment to the weekend’s matchup. Ditka’s impact on the sport and the franchise will be remembered through this lasting tribute, marking the end of an era for a man who defined an era of Bears football.
