The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that legendary cricketer VVS Laxman will now regularly attend selection meetings as part of an effort to streamline communication between selectors, team management, and the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The decision was made following a review meeting in Mumbai, with BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia emphasizing that Laxman’s role will help prevent miscommunication by providing selectors with up-to-date information on player injuries and availability.
Saikia clarified that the move is not about transparency but ensuring selectors have complete and accurate data to make informed decisions, particularly amid ongoing concerns over player injuries affecting team composition.
The announcement comes as India captain Shubman Gill has previously highlighted the challenges posed by frequent injuries and scheduling conflicts, noting that the team lacks time to experiment with new lineups ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Gill had expressed frustration over the inability to field the preferred bowling lineup during recent series, underscoring the urgency of addressing player fitness and selection consistency.
