BCCI reveals Mohsin Naqvi’s reaction after India refused Asia Cup trophy from him: 'He did not raise any objection'

Following a 72-run victory against Sri Lanka in Dubai to claim the Asia Cup title, the Indian women's cricket team declined to receive the winners' trophy from Asian Cricket Council head Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi, who also serves as a Pakistani cabinet minister and leads the Pakistan Cricket Board, handed over the runners-up prize to the Sri Lankan squad before exiting the arena.

Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Devajit Saikia noted that council authorities had received advance notice regarding the squad's stance should they prevail, a move intended to mirror a similar refusal by the Suryakumar Yadav-captained men's squad at the 2025 tournament amid bilateral strain tied to the Pahalgam terror incident in April 2025.

Upon landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport alongside the squad, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla explained that the choice was reached collectively and that Naqvi offered no protest, simply handing out awards elsewhere prior to departing. Addressing photographs of Saikia conversing with Naqvi during the title clash, Shukla dismissed external criticism by describing the exchange as an ordinary professional dialogue.
