Baranica Elangovan made history by claiming the inaugural pole vault podium finish for her nation at the Asian Games. The twenty-nine-year-old competitor achieved a height of 4.15 metres to capture the bronze.
She tied with Polina Ivanova from Kazakhstan, who reached the exact same height of 4.15 metres. Because both competitors were level on countback, they ended up sharing the bronze podium spot.
