Annabel Sutherland starred with both bat and ball to guide the Australian women's cricket team to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their opening one-day international on Monday. Bangladesh struggled immensely after being sent in to bat, managing a total of only 166 before being bundled out.
Sutherland wreaked havoc on the opposition lineup by claiming four wickets while conceding 30 runs, receiving strong assistance from Megan Schutt, who picked up two dismissals and reached a milestone of 150 ODI wickets for her country. Ritu Moni attempted to stabilize the innings with a top score of 45 runs, while captain Nigar Sultana contributed 29 from a slow knock before falling to Talia McGrath.
Chasing the modest target, Australia overcame an early blow when opening batter Georgia Voll was removed for 19 following a quick burst of boundaries. Phoebe Litchfield anchored the chase solidly, converting her strong start into an unbeaten half-century by scoring 77 runs from 57 deliveries.
Following Litchfield's departure, Ellyse Perry and Sutherland finished the remaining runs smoothly, securing the win with over 24 overs remaining.
