Nic Maddinson has earned a recall to the Australian Test squad for the upcoming series opener against South Africa. This return follows his successful battle against testicular cancer, which had previously spread to his lung and lymph nodes before he finished chemotherapy in July 2025 and received clearance to play again.
Joining him as a fresh addition is Sam Harper, with both players stepping in to provide depth as cover for Josh Inglis. Inglis unfortunately picked up a finger fracture during preparations, while all-rounder Cameron Green remains doubtful due to a lower abdominal strain.
The opening contest of the three-match red-ball tour is scheduled to begin on Friday in Durban. Selectors noted that Harper will handle keeping duties while Inglis recuperates, and Maddinson brings valuable versatility across the batting lineup.
Maddinson recently posted a century in domestic one-day action, marking his first major return to form in longer formats following his cancer treatment.
