Texas Tech senior linebacker Austin Romaine secured Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors following a historic outing in a 49-14 triumph over Sam Houston. Romaine became the inaugural player in program history, and the first conference player since 2002, to intercept two passes for touchdowns on consecutive offensive snaps.
His quick-fire scores included a 15-yard return off a deflected pass in the second quarter immediately followed by a 31-yard interception return. In addition to his scoring plays, the former Kansas State transfer led his squad with eight total tackles, helping shut out the opponent in the second half and improving his team's record to 4-0 ahead of a trip to Colorado.
