Auburn head coach Alex Golesh made history with his first career victory over a top-ranked opponent, leading the Tigers to a thrilling 27-24 upset over No. 1 Georgia on Saturday night.
The win marked a turning point for Golesh, who entered his fourth season as a head coach and his first with Auburn, after the team struggled to a 3-2 start. The Tigers rallied from a 14-7 deficit in the first quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points while shutting down Georgia’s offense in the second and third quarters.
Auburn’s offense, led by quarterback Byrum Brown, who threw for 150 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 115 yards and another score, broke through in the final minutes. Keshaun Singleton and Chas Nimrod added key receptions, while Jeremiah Cobb contributed in the ground game with 61 rushing yards.
The victory propels Auburn into playoff contention and sets up a high-stakes home matchup against No. 22 LSU next week.
