Former Bihar cricketer Ashis Sinha shared memories of his standout fast-bowling performances against international stars during East Zone’s 1979 tour match against Australia in Cuttack. The East Zone side, featuring Sinha as a key seam bowler, defeated Australia by four wickets, with Sinha recalling dismissing Australian opener Graham Yallop and Test captain Kim Hughes—both victims of his swing bowling—while also falling to Rodney Hogg.
The Australian team included Allan Border, then just months into his Test debut, whom Sinha described as already looking formidable. Sinha also played against West Indies legends Malcolm Marshall (who took 11 wickets in the match) and Alvin Kallicharan during the same tour, calling it a privilege to face such talent.
Beyond cricket, Sinha represented Bihar in football as a defender during the Santosh Trophy, showcasing his versatility in sports. His cricket career was cut short by injury, but he later contributed as a coach and selector, including during India’s historic 2000 Under-19 World Cup victory.
