As Alex Ovechkin announces final season, Las Vegas holds a lasting place in his legacy

Alex Ovechkin has confirmed that the 2026-27 NHL campaign will mark his final season, concluding a legendary career that began 21 years ago. The Capitals captain currently holds 929 goals and 1,688 points across 1,575 appearances.

Las Vegas remains a pivotal location in his history, serving as the site where he secured his first Stanley Cup title in 2018 and where he recently recorded his 31st career hat trick in November 2024. During that 2018 championship run, he was honored as the playoff MVP, sharing the moment with former Washington executive George McPhee, who was then leading the Golden Knights.

Ovechkin now enters his final year needing 29 more goals to surpass the all-time record held by Wayne Gretzky.
