The Arizona Fall League (AFL) officially launched on October 3, with six teams showcasing prospects from all 30 MLB organizations. The Peoria Javelinas, representing the San Diego Padres, have sent five pitchers—right-handers Winyer Chourio and Kannon Kemp (both starters), Francis Peña, Jordan Valenzuela, and left-hander Igor Gil—as well as three position players: catcher Ty Harvey, outfielder Alex McCoy, and infielder Justin DeCriscio.
Manager Danny Worth, the Padres’ minor league infield coordinator, leads the team into its first six-week stretch of competition, which runs through November 14. After a split opening week, the Javelinas sit in third place, trailing by two games behind Salt River and Scottsdale.
On the mound, Chourio has allowed just two hits and no runs in three innings, while Kemp struggled in his lone start, yielding four hits and a run in 1⅔ frames. Gil’s outing was the least effective, posting a 10.80 ERA in 1⅔ innings across two appearances.
