Roman Anthony has been removed from the American League Wild Card Series active roster after his right hand and wrist issues flared up during Tuesday's opening game against the New York Yankees. Red Sox skipper Chad Tracy explained that the outfielder experienced renewed discomfort following a pair of swings, prompting his immediate departure and subsequent medical imaging back in Boston.
The scans revealed fresh strains and a setback regarding the partially torn tendon in his right ring finger joint that initially sidelined him back on May 4 in Detroit. Tracy noted that either Anthony Seigler or Curtis Mead will take his spot on the postseason roster.
The 22-year-old batter finished his regular-season campaign batting .262 with an .321 on-base percentage, a .476 slugging mark, four home runs, and 10 runs driven in across his final 103 plate appearances.
