Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, sidelining him for up to two months. The 25-year-old All-Star had been managing inflammation and a bone bruise in that knee, issues that persisted despite him scoring a team-high 47 points in a 127-125 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.
Through the first four games of the season, Edwards averaged 33.3 points in 33.8 minutes per game as Minnesota started 3-1.
The injury adds to a difficult early stretch for the league, where the Oklahoma City Thunder have lost Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace for potentially the entire season, and Toronto Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard is out indefinitely with a swollen knee. Edwards, who has made the All-Star team in four straight years, is a critical piece for a Timberwolves squad aiming to compete in the Western Conference.
