Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese made history by claiming the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honor, securing 46 of 74 available votes to surpass Gabby Williams and A’ja Wilson. This achievement marks the first time a player from the Atlanta franchise has earned the accolade.
During her debut campaign with the team, Reese topped the league with 12.1 rebounds per contest, placed third with 1.8 steals per contest, and set a new single-season benchmark by totaling 521 rebounds, making her the inaugural player to reach the 500-rebound threshold in a single year. She also paced the competition in Defensive Win Shares at 3.39, while helping the Dream limit opponents significantly when she was on the court.
