Ahead of his scheduled heavyweight clash at UFC 335, former multi-division titleholder Alex Pereira has outlined his future career plans. Set to meet Sergei Pavlovich on December 12, the Brazilian striker revealed he intends to drop back down to the 205-pound division should he suffer a defeat in Las Vegas.
Pereira noted that he lacks the natural bulk of his heavyweight rivals and wishes to avoid unnecessary punishment against physically larger opponents. His previous venture into the division resulted in a second-round knockout loss to Ciryl Gane back in June while pursuing the interim championship.
Despite considering a return to light heavyweight in the event of a setback, Pereira remains optimistic about his chances against his upcoming Russian opponent. Pavlovich approaches the matchup carrying momentum from a three-fight win streak, which includes a rapid knockout victory over Tallison Teixeira.
Even though Teixeira previously trained alongside Pereira, the former champion feels fully prepared for whatever strategy his next rival might employ.
