Persistent downpours forced Major League Baseball officials to postpone the fourth contest of the American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians. Both skippers, Kevin Cash and Stephen Vogt, acknowledged that league administrators explored every possible window of dry weather before making the final call to wait out the storm.
The postponement marks the first time an ALCS matchup has been delayed since the 2019 postseason. Play will resume with Game 4 on Saturday evening, carrying over the original pitching matchups featuring Shawn Armstrong for Cleveland and Nick Martinez for Tampa Bay.
The series currently stands at two games to one in favor of Cleveland following a narrow three-to-two triumph secured by a late home run from Petey Halpin. Following Saturday's rescheduled contest, Game 5 is slated for Sunday afternoon at the same ballpark, while Game 6 would shift the competition to Florida on Monday should it prove necessary.
Armstrong prepares to make his fifth appearance of the postseason after overcoming a calf strain that nearly ended his campaign during the summer months.
