Ahead of his sideline debut, Whims conferred with Akron head coach Joe Moorhead and even received three pieces of guidance from Nick Saban on College GameDay, which included an emphatic recommendation to run a flea-flicker.
Despite the memorable buildup, Whims saw his play-calling duties come to an abrupt conclusion when the Zips turned the ball over on a fumble. Even with the miscue truncating the drive, the guest coordinator still fulfilled a personal dream during the matchup.
