Akron guest play-caller Marty Whims II's series cut short by fumble

Akron season-ticket holder Marty Whims II earned the unique opportunity to serve as the Zips' honorary offensive coordinator for their opening possession against Robert Morris after winning a special contest. Ahead of his sideline debut, Whims conferred with Akron head coach Joe Moorhead and even received three pieces of guidance from Nick Saban on College GameDay, which included an emphatic recommendation to run a flea-flicker.

Despite the memorable buildup, Whims saw his play-calling duties come to an abrupt conclusion when the Zips turned the ball over on a fumble. Even with the miscue truncating the drive, the guest coordinator still fulfilled a personal dream during the matchup.
