During the second one-day international in Johannesburg on September 27, 2026, South African opening batsman Aiden Markram was dismissed for a golden duck on the very first delivery of the contest. Josh Hazlewood claimed the wicket after Cooper Connolly caught the effort, adding Markram to a rare national list that previously included only Herschelle Gibbs, Hashim Amla, and Janneman Malan.
This opening strike also placed Hazlewood into an exclusive group of Australian bowlers who have secured a wicket with the inaugural ball of an ODI fixture. Later in the innings, Hazlewood also removed Quinton de Kock, who had contributed fifteen runs from thirteen deliveries before being caught behind by wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
