Kerala opener Abhishek P. Nair finally delivered a breakthrough performance in senior cricket after years of waiting for his state call-up.
The left-handed batter, who had previously played for Karnataka’s Under-19 squad without earning a regular spot, scored a patient 126 in his second Ranji Trophy innings—his first full match for Kerala—against Jharkhand at Keenan Stadium. His previous Ranji appearance came as a concussion substitute last season, but he had already caught attention with a brisk 52-ball 108 in the Presidents Cup T20 the prior year.
Nair credited coach Biju George for refining his technique and temperament, allowing him to anchor the innings despite challenging conditions, including spin assistance for Jharkhand’s bowlers on the third day. Though he represented Thiruvananthapuram at district and zonal levels, his father’s transfer to Karnataka delayed his Kerala debut until senior cricket, where he wasted no time making an impact.
