After 51-point loss, Maryland’s Locksley says meeting with athletic director was routine

Following a devastating 54-3 defeat to UCLA that dropped the Terrapins to a 2-2 record, Maryland head coach Michael Locksley addressed the media to discuss a routine weekly check-in with athletic director Jim Smith. Locksley dismissed speculation regarding his job security after the 51-point blowout, emphasizing that their conversation covered standard personnel and program topics without requiring any formal reassurances.

To address the team's offensive struggles—which included five turnovers and converting just one of fifteen third downs—the coaching staff simplified the scheme by reducing pre-season responsibilities for sophomore quarterback Malik Washington. Players like wide receiver Kaleb Webb and center Michael Hershey noted that the squad is attempting to block out external criticism and social media noise as they prepare for their upcoming matchup against Nebraska.
