The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has reaffirmed its commitment to reviving the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) with a scheduled launch on December 27, 2026, in the UAE. The tournament will feature five regional franchises representing Kabul, Kandahar, Balkh, Paktia, and Nangarhar, with three of the five franchise agreements already secured.
The ACB is actively negotiating with five interested parties—including one from Afghanistan and others from India and additional markets—for the remaining two spots, prioritizing credible and financially stable partners to ensure long-term sustainability. The player draft is set for late October 2026, with over 1,500 registrations, including top international players, and a dedicated committee overseeing player assessments and coach selections ahead of the draft.
