Abishek Porel granted bail in alleged rape case after spending over a month in jail: Report

Bengal wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has secured bail from a Chinsurah court following an incarceration lasting over a month on charges of rape and criminal intimidation. His apprehension occurred in Hooghly district after an arrest mandate from the Calcutta High Court, which also instructed law enforcement to confiscate his digital hardware to prevent private images from being distributed.

A Karnataka-based medical student had registered a police report at Mogra station on June 23, accusing Porel under Sections 69, 311, and 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita alongside Sections 66 and 72 of the Information Technology Act. She asserted that they shared a three-and-a-half-year relationship involving foreign trips and marriage assurances before he disavowed their bond, revisiting a prior dispute from eighteen months earlier; Porel has maintained his innocence throughout, characterizing the accusations as completely fabricated.

On the field, the Bengal player launched his first-class career during the 2021-22 domestic campaign and has compiled 32 first-class appearances alongside 23 List A fixtures. At the franchise level, Porel debuted for Delhi Capitals in 2023, subsequently producing 108 runs across four trips to the crease for the IPL side during the 2026 edition.
