Seventeen-year-old batter Sagar Virk has described how valuable early morning training sessions in Patiala laid the foundation for his selection to the India under-19 team. Despite initial setbacks when he was omitted from the Punjab under-16 squad across two consecutive seasons, guidance from his coach Himanshu Chawla helped him stay focused on reaching higher levels of the sport.
His hard work eventually paid off with a national youth call-up, highlighted by a notable 134-run innings during a youth Test series in Sri Lanka.
Following his return, Virk shared a dressing room with senior player Abhishek Sharma while representing the Amritsar Soormas in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 tournament. He noted that Sharma provided calming advice during tough phases of the game, encouraging teammates to express themselves and trust their batting abilities.
Now carrying that reassurance forward, Virk is preparing to feature in upcoming youth Test matches against Australia.
