Aaron Donald is suddenly massively important for the Rams

The Los Angeles Rams endured a disastrous start to their 2026 campaign after falling 27-7 against the San Francisco 49ers during an opening-week matchup hosted in Australia. The franchise entered the year viewed widely as the top Super Bowl contender following an offseason blockbuster deal to acquire Myles Garrett, who is playing on a $208 million contract.

However, the premier pass rusher failed to notch a single quarterback hit or pressure in the lopsided defeat after barely practicing in training camp because of lingering knee trouble.

Matters deteriorated further on Sunday with the revelation that Garrett requires knee surgery, prompting a placement on injured reserve that will sideline him for at least four contests. With Garrett out for the next month, defensive focus rapidly shifts to Aaron Donald.

The longtime star may now make his anticipated return to the field as soon as Week 2 to anchor a suddenly depleted defensive front.
