Polish tennis star Iga Świątek, who dominated the WTA Tour in 2022 with a record 75 weeks at world No. 1 and a Grand Slam title each year through 2025, has faced an unexpected slump in 2026.
After a strong start to the season—including a Wimbledon and Cincinnati Open title in 2025—her form has faltered, with early exits at major tournaments like the Australian Open, where she lost to eventual champion Elena Rybakina in straight sets. The downturn continued at the Miami Open, where she suffered her first opening-round defeat in 73 consecutive matches, ending a streak that had defined her recent dominance.
The setback led to a coaching change, as Świątek parted ways with Wim Fissette and sought guidance from Rafael Nadal’s former coach, Francisco Roig, following a brief consultation at Nadal’s academy. Despite the challenges, she secured her lone title of the season at the National Bank Open in Toronto, defeating Rybakina in the final after a third-round upset at Wimbledon by rising star Alex Eala.
The shift in her game, marked by inconsistency and early exits, has raised questions about her ability to reclaim her former status as the sport’s top player.
