Afghanistan secured a series-clinching victory over Zimbabwe after overcoming a dreadful start thanks to a historic performance from Azmatullah Omarzai. Arriving at the crease with his side reeling at five runs for four wickets in the fourth over, Omarzai crafted an unbeaten century from number six, reaching the milestone in 44 balls and finishing with 12 sixes and five fours.
He was ably assisted by Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai, who contributed 52 runs from 27 deliveries as the pair put on 142 for the sixth wicket to propel the total to 221 for seven.
In response, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza kept his team in contention by striking an unbeaten century from 56 balls, though Afghanistan ultimately prevailed to take a two-nil lead in the series. Omarzai also contributed economically with the ball by conceding 17 runs and claiming one wicket in his two overs.
The milestone knock marked the first time a player from a full-member nation has scored a century batting at number six or lower in men's T20 international cricket.
