The San Francisco 49ers are facing a significant defensive setback as star pass rusher Nick Bosa is sidelined for multiple weeks due to a calf strain. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that the injury occurred during a practice walkthrough on Thursday while the defender was performing high knees.
Although the team does not plan to place him on injured reserve right away, his absence adds to a mounting list of defensive linemen sidelined for the organization this season.
Despite a strong two-win start to the campaign largely fueled by their defensive unit, San Francisco now must navigate a vulnerable stretch without one of their primary defensive anchors. Shanahan noted that the setback is not expected to be long-term, though Bosa will certainly be forced to sit out upcoming matchups, beginning with the weekend contest against Arizona.
This latest health concern continues an unfortunate pattern of physical attrition for the franchise under its current coaching staff.
