PGA Tour veteran David Lipsky concluded the Baycurrent Classic in Japan with a late surge, finishing tied for 54th after an uneven final round. The 38-year-old opened with a strong 66 but struggled early on Sunday, bogeying four of his first five holes before rallying to a bogey-free back nine, posting a 5-under 31 to salvage a 3-under total.
His turnaround came after a contentious split with longtime caddie Darren Woolard, who parted ways with Lipsky before the final round. The change in bagmen marked the second consecutive month a player completed a tournament without the caddie they started with, following Alejandro Tosti’s mid-tournament departure of Cliff Ellis at the Biltmore Championship last month.
Lipsky, who sits 87th in the FedExCup fall standings, has shown consistency this season, making 12 of 20 cuts and finishing solo second at the Valspar Championship in March. Meanwhile, Tosti’s season has been less successful, with just five cuts in 23 starts and a best finish of tied for 13th last week in Utah.
