Ravi Shastri has delivered a sharp warning to critics attempting to push Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli out of India's one-day setup, suggesting those individuals risk losing their own positions instead. Both senior batters have stepped away from the Test and T20I formats to focus on securing a place in the squad for the ICC ODI World Cup in 2027.
Shastri strongly defended their ongoing presence and legacy in international limited-overs cricket during a recent broadcast appearance.
Speaking on Star Sports, the former head coach emphasized that the two veterans never truly departed the format and deserve to continue playing based on their massive contributions over the past fifteen years. He pointed to outgoing chief selector Ajit Agarkar as a cautionary example of an official whose contract was not renewed after attempting to move past Rohit.
Meanwhile, the duo has rejoined the team for the ongoing three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
