Vikings place Jordan Mason on injured reserve due to thumb fracture: Who's up next

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell stated Wednesday that running back Jordan Mason has been moved to injured reserve following surgery to repair a minor thumb fracture. The 27-year-old rusher, who arrived via trade from the San Francisco 49ers in March 2025 after entering the league as an undrafted Georgia Tech product, led the team during their opening victory against Green Bay with 15 rushes for 59 yards and a touchdown.

The roster designation forces Mason to miss at least four contests—away meetings with the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New Orleans Saints, plus a home date opposite Miami. Due to a Week 6 bye, he is eligible to return in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.

With Mason sidelined, 31-year-old Aaron Jones Sr. takes over the primary workload in the offensive backfield.

2-yard average over 12 appearances a year ago, while Mason supplied 758 yards and six touchdowns on 159 carries in 2025. Minnesota has also added DeeJay Dallas to their active 53-man roster to help reinforce their running back depth.
