South Florida head coach Brian Hartline’s recent skepticism about the Alamodome’s crowd noise became a rallying cry for UTSA after the Roadrunners silenced his doubts with a 31–24 victory over the Bulls on Thursday night. Hartline had questioned how the stadium could sound so loud with relatively few attendees, echoing past comments from other visiting coaches who speculated about artificial crowd amplification.
UTSA responded by turning the criticism into a marketing opportunity, offering $9 tickets—tied to Hartline’s Ohio State No. 9 jersey—as a “Brian Hartline Special,” while coach Jeff Traylor emphasized the school’s efforts to grow attendance.
The game itself was a statement, with UTSA overcoming a 17–10 halftime deficit behind a dominant second-half performance, including three straight scoring drives capped by a Michael Petro field goal to secure the lead. The Roadrunners outgained USF 486–288 on the ground, with running back Peterson leading the charge and quarterback Van Buren Jr.
falling just short of a late comeback attempt.
