New Zealand’s hopes for a strong start to their T20I series against India have been dealt a blow by injuries to two key players. Mark Chapman, a reliable middle-order batter, will miss the entire five-match T20I series after suffering a hamstring injury while playing in a European T20 league last month.
His return is now unlikely until the ODI series begins on November 4, leaving the Black Caps without one of their most dependable run-scorers in the white-ball format. Zak Foulkes, another experienced all-rounder, is also sidelined due to a hip flexor issue, with no confirmed timeline for his recovery, further weakening New Zealand’s depth ahead of the high-stakes series starting October 22 in Christchurch.
The Black Caps have named replacements in all-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner to fill the gaps, though coach Rob Walter acknowledged the setback. Despite the losses, New Zealand retain a formidable batting lineup, including explosive hitters like Finn Allen, Daryl Mitchell, and Glenn Phillips, while their bowling attack—led by Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry—remains intact.
The series will serve as a crucial warm-up for both teams ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle, with the first T20I scheduled at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
