Former Indian cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane have expressed their grief over the passing of veteran actor Nana Patekar, who died at the age of 75. Dhawan, who served as an opener for the national team, described the late star as a unique talent whose contributions to Hindi and Marathi cinema would continue to influence future audiences.
Rahane similarly honored Patekar, noting that his performances had provided both inspiration and entertainment to viewers for several decades.
Patekar suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa and was pronounced dead at 5:20 am on Thursday, October 8. According to Dr.
Shekhar Salkar, the Chief of Oncology at Manipal Hospital, the actor reported left-sided chest pain to a friend around 2:30 am before becoming unresponsive. Medical staff performed CPR at the home and during the transport to the hospital, where resuscitation efforts continued for approximately 45 minutes without success.
The actor, who made his Hindi film debut in 1978 with Gaman, had recently attended an event in Dona Paula on October 4, where he spoke for over an hour and paid tribute to former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
