'Top two? Why not?' - Why Sangare turned down top clubs for Brentford

Mamadou Sangare made headlines this summer by rejecting high-profile offers from top European clubs to join Brentford, despite his standout season with RC Lens. The 24-year-old midfielder played a pivotal role in Lens’s Ligue 1 runner-up finish and French Cup triumph, earning a spot in the league’s Team of the Year ahead of PSG talents João Neves and Fabian Ruiz.

Though elite clubs were reportedly vying for his signature, Sangare prioritized development over immediate prestige, citing Brentford’s coaching approach and long-term potential as key factors in his decision. His choice proved prescient early on, as he delivered a commanding Premier League debut with two assists in a dominant 3-0 win over Tottenham, drawing praise from figures like Jamie Redknapp for his poised, elite-level performance.

Brentford’s scouting process—known for its meticulous player presentations—likely played a role in securing such a standout signing, with the club’s ability to identify and nurture talent becoming a recurring theme in their transfer strategy.
