'This time I lost the battle': Mark Wood retires from international cricket

England fast bowler Mark Wood has called time on his international career at age 36, following an 11-year run heavily impacted by physical setbacks. The quick cited medical advice regarding Test and 50-over formats, noting that persistent knee, ankle, and elbow issues finally wore down his drive after appearing in 38 Tests, 70 ODIs, and 38 T20Is with 253 total wickets.

His career highlights included lifting the 2019 ODI World Cup at home and the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, alongside playing key roles in multiple Ashes campaigns. Managing director Rob Key praised the pacer for consistently exciting fans whenever he took the ball.
