Somerset are poised to finish second again – and after 136 years it still hurts

The County Championship is reaching its conclusion under a warm forecast, bringing a late spell of dry weather to the final round of matches. Warwickshire currently holds an eleven-point lead at the summit of the standings ahead of their fixture against Leicestershire.

Meanwhile, Somerset is once again tracking toward a second-place finish and is set to face Surrey in their upcoming match. Elsewhere in the competition, reigning titleholders Nottinghamshire are scheduled to lock horns with Yorkshire.
