Steelers' Joey Porter Jr. unlikely to play in Week 1: Possible landing spots for cornerback

Heading into the final season of his initial rookie agreement, the veteran defensive back failed to secure an extension before the franchise's strict policy against in-season contract negotiations took effect. Pittsburgh has been open to trade inquiries, though their initial demand for high-tier compensation—potentially including a first-round selection—has prevented serious negotiations from gaining traction, though an extended absence could eventually force them to adjust expectations.

Should the Steelers choose to deal Porter, the Dallas Cowboys represent a viable destination. Dallas holds ample salary-cap flexibility following their trade of Micah Parsons a year ago, allowing them to bolster their defensive backfield alongside rookie first-rounder Caleb Downs.
