Former WNBA star Sydney Colson used her 'Unsupervised' podcast to criticize White players in the league for remaining silent or making harmful remarks while Black teammates face prejudice, specifically referencing the recent controversy surrounding A'ja Wilson and hostile fan behavior. Colson, a two-time champion with the Las Vegas Aces, accused these players of faking sisterhood and demanded they stop speaking out on divisive topics like transgender athletes if they do not actively defend their Black peers.
She also highlighted a broader cultural shift in the league, noting that the new collective bargaining agreement has led to a fear among players that voicing opinions could negatively impact their contract negotiations and salaries.
The comments follow a period of intense scrutiny for the Indiana Fever, where Colson played 30 games in 2025 before a season-ending injury. Teammates Sophie Cunningham and Kelsey Mitchell have previously discussed the backlash they received, with Mitchell noting the pressure of being associated with Caitlin Clark, while center Aaliyah Boston described the hate directed at Clark during her rookie year.
In a separate development, Clark addressed the racist rhetoric during her end-of-season press conference, explicitly stating that she does not support the discrimination and hate speech that has been used to target her and her teammates.
