Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark addressed the intense fan reactions she faced during her team's three regular-season meetings with the Golden State Valkyries, a franchise that recently became the first women's sports team to generate $100 million in annual regular-season revenue. Although the Fever lost two of those three games, including a 90-88 defeat in May at Chase Center before a crowd of 18,064, Clark stated she enjoyed the hostility, noting that the opposing fans booed her on every possession and that such passion adds to the competitive atmosphere.
These remarks came during an exit interview following the Fever's 1-2 first-round playoff elimination by the Las Vegas Aces. While Clark explained that she avoids reading negative online messages, she expressed appreciation for in-person fan engagement, even when it is aggressive.
The Golden State team, which has sold out 49 consecutive games and attracted over 40 sponsors, is currently leading the Las Vegas Aces 2-0 in the semifinals, with reports suggesting their total revenue could exceed $130 million if they advance to the Finals.
