BYU’s defense stifled Iowa State with a dominant 24-10 victory Friday night, holding the Cyclones to just 200 total yards—their lowest output since 2018. The Cougars improved to 5-0 and 3-0 in the Big 12, while Iowa State dropped to 3-3 and 1-2.
BYU’s stout unit limited Iowa State’s rushing attack, including star running back Aiden Flora, who managed only 86 yards on 17 carries after rushing for 212 yards and three touchdowns the previous week. Quarterback Bear Bachmeier led BYU’s offense with 329 passing yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 109 yards—becoming the first BYU quarterback since Taysom Hill to surpass 300 passing and 100 rushing yards in a single game.
Despite the strong defensive effort, BYU’s offense struggled with fourth-down conversions, leaving points on the board and prompting head coach Kalani Sitake to emphasize the need for more aggressive offensive execution moving forward. Iowa State’s struggles included communication issues up front and a muffed punt that set up BYU’s only touchdown of the game.
The win keeps BYU in the College Football Playoff conversation, currently holding a 55.3% chance according to Pro Football Network’s latest rankings.
