Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif and his teammate Basit Ali have shared memories of their long-standing connection with the late Indian actor Nana Patekar. Latif recalled that his friendship with the actor began during the 1994 Singer Trophy, facilitated by Indian players Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja.
The bond was so significant that teammates nicknamed Latif after the actor. Latif also recounted how Patekar once praised his sportsmanship to the Indian squad after receiving a congratulatory message from the Pakistani cricketer following a 1998 award win.
Patekar, who was also known for his support of the Indian military during the 1999 Kargil War, passed away on Thursday at the age of 73, leaving behind his wife Neelkanti and son Malhar.
