‘Light a Match’: Eric Morris Seeing Oklahoma State Come Back to Life After Ending Big 12 Drought

Oklahoma State halted a lengthy conference losing streak by defeating West Virginia 41-24 on the road, improving their record to 3-1 and earning the program its first AP Top 25 ranking since late 2024 at number nineteen. Head coach Eric Morris celebrated the breakthrough after learning his squad had gone 1,036 days without a victory in the Big 12, a drought stretching back eighteen games to a win against BYU during the 2023 regular-season finale.

Morris noted that former quarterback Brandon Weeden previously advised him that sparking success in Stillwater would trigger an incredible transformation for the university.

On the field, the visiting offense generated 609 total yards behind a balanced attack coordinated by Morris. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns, connecting heavily with Wyatt Young who accumulated 192 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, running back Caleb Hawkins carried thirty-one times for a career-high 180 yards and a crucial twenty-two-yard score that put his team ahead for the first time, helping the unit secure three consecutive wins.
