Former international cricketer Aakash Chopra has publicly questioned the omission of Sanju Samson from India's latest one-day squad for the remaining fixtures against New Zealand. Chopra noted that despite strong historical averages of 56.67 across fourteen innings and a century against South Africa in Paarl, selectors opted for Kumar Kushagra and named Ishan Kishan as vice-captain while passing over Samson, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Dhruv Jurel.
In addition to the fifty-over format, Chopra defended Samson's recent twenty-over output by comparing his six hundred fifty-seven runs from twenty matches against Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma. The former batter argued that Samson constantly faces unfair scrutiny despite outscoring his peers, recalling how he previously responded to social media debates by hitting consecutive half-centuries in an Afghanistan series after being dropped during an earlier UK tour.
