J.J. McCarthy trade grades: QB could be a downgrade for Giants, Vikings get a clean split

In response to losing starting quarterback Jaxson Dart for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, the New York Giants acquired J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick.

Dart suffered the severe injury during Week 2, forcing the Giants to rely on Jameis Winston and Jake Haener before making the trade.

McCarthy's departure concludes an underwhelming stint in Minnesota after the franchise drafted him tenth overall in 2024 and subsequently endured a disappointing 2025 campaign. The Vikings have since moved on by signing Kyler Murray, leaving McCarthy to seek a fresh start in New York.
